Before the Liturgy of the Word begins at Mass, children in grades 1st through 6th are dismissed to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word.  They process up the aisle toward the vestibule and into the room on the right.  There age-appropriate scripture and discussion take place.  They then pray Prayers of the Faithful always reflecting their concerns and those of their loved ones.  They recite the Creed and then return to their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Since many of the children participate in Parish Religious Education programs, they have done their homework and are active participants in the scripture discussions.  We currently have four catechists who minister to these young members of St. Vincent’s. One catechist proudly noted that after Mass the children are quite anxious to tell Father Bill what they have learned!

A child will have many teachers in his or her life: parents first, grandparents, godparents, aunts and uncles, school and religious instructors.  There can never be too many, especially those who guide them in their faith. Because Jesus told his disciples, “Let the little ones come to Me,” we extend our thanks and appreciation to those who, by their stewardship, lead the children to Him, and into the community of faith.
